A hosted (semi) Geek

August 12th, 2009

I’ve written about this company previously and honestly I cannot recommend them enough. It was through webhostinggeeks.com that I found my current web hosting company.
The honest to goodness reviews of individual hosting companies made by actual customers and need I mention, former customers were refreshing to read.
Before I moved to my current hosts ,I had been with three or four different companies and none lasted more than a month or two. Psychosis was nearly always down and when it was actually viewable it would take forever and a bit to load properly. But thankfully I think I have hit the nail on the head with my current crew.

I actually received a very pushy email from the former lot -whom I shall refer to as PoxyHosts looking for me to resubscribe, apparently the had been taken over by another 12 year old! Obviously when I refused they suspended my account.. Good. They didn’t refund my then remaining six months worth of hosting that I had just stupidly enough repaid before they lost a weeks worth of posts and said no more than “Tough” about it..

If only I had found webhostinggeeks.com before then it would have saved me a whole heap of trouble. In addition to the sanity saving reviews they offer lots of interesting  tit-bits about what you should look for in a host and more importantly tips on maximising SEO potential.

The Day the Music Died..

July 7th, 2009

It is a sad,sad day today. I said goodbye to my beloved pink 16gb Mp3 player. After nearly two years of daily abuse it finally went and bit the dust…

It started to malfunction last week, I would listening to it and it would just stop playing and freeze on me. I couldn’t even get it to switch off.. I would resort to sticking a pin in the reset to crank it up again. Last night well, last night that little trick wouldn’t even work..

I let it discharge and tried it again this evening, after a full recharge it is working but I have realized that it isn’t fair on the poor little girl, so I have to retire her as a working unit today. Yes, it is female -because she is pink ? No,she is a temperamental and stroppy little cow when she wants too be!

I have decided to go ahead and just replace it without looking for a different model. Pinkie (how sad is it that she was even named?) did take a lot of abuse. I’m a klutz to begin with , so it was dropped many a time during her life span. The boys did get their grubby little mitts on it from time to time but I always kept the screen locked so there was never any harm done.

I have a new Sony Walkman (NWZ-S639FS) reserved in Argos ,so I’ll collect it tomorrow. It isn’t pink though ,it is is a rather boring silver colour.. Oh well, it will do the job!

It is a 16gb ,yes ,so tonnes of tracks. It can also play MP4s’ but I have never had any on Pinkie. It is a very robust unit and that is the main thing.

With the new one, I think maybe I should treat it with a little bit more respect and it might actually last longer this time..

Sad,sad state of affairs…
