So What’s going?
Nothing at all. I’m just relaxing with the boys and doing normal, mundane activities.
I have been reading a lot lately, I say a lot meaning a lot more for me and you know I love chewing my way through the books!
Last month I discovered J.R Ward and her amazing Black Dagger Brotherhood series. It has been out a few years now, since 2005 , but I have just discovered it! I read the first book in the series, Dark Lover, and the same evening after just reading half ways through it and bought the remaining five books.
I had the entire series, which then consisted of seven books, read within the week.Book Eight, which is entitled ‘Lover Mine’ was released the week after (May 6th?) so the timing was perfect.
Brief overview, as borrowed from Amazon;
In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There also exists a secret band of brothers like no other – six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Among them, none relishes killing their enemies more than Wrath, the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood…The only pure-bred vampire left on the planet, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But when one of his most trusted fighters is killed – orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate – Wrath must usher the beautiful female into the world of the undead…Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn’t there before, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes to her at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of brotherhood and blood frighten her. But his touch ignites a dawning hunger that threatens to consume them both…
It follows the Brothers, named Wrath (the Blind King) ,Rhage, Zsadist,Phury, Vishous, and Tohrment and their on going war with the Lessening Society plus their rather spectacular private lives.
If you are a Twilight fan then give it a miss. Another pinched wordage that explains to a lot better than I could ever ;
Ward wields a commanding voice perfect for the genre, and readers new to the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood should hold on tight for an intriguing, adrenaline-pumping ride featuring a race of warrior vampires who fill enemies with terror and women with desire. Like any good thrill ride, the pace changes with a tender story of survival and hope and leaves readers begging for more. Fans of L. A. Banks, Laurell K. Hamilton, and Sherrilyn Kenyon will add Ward to their must-read list
I am currently on my second read of the series and this time is even better than the first. Will also bought me The Black Dagger Brotherhood Insiders guide. which in m opinion is also an essential read. It gives you breakdowns of the brothers, timelines, exclusive novellas and a whole lot more.
I also swallowed another series of hers ; Covet: A Novel of fallen Angels which is also a fantastic read. It is set in Caldwell and uses a crossover scenario without actually stepping on the toes of th Brothers.
I know that I have said this many a time before , but J.R Ward is my favourite author of all time. The whole Sci/fi vamp/Shifter genre is my personal stomping ground and while I have flirted with Crime Thrillers of late, the BDBH has pulled me feet first back into the genre!
