Spider in my Room

May 30th, 2010

So What’s going?

Nothing at all. I’m just relaxing with the boys and doing normal, mundane activities.

I have been reading a lot lately, I say a lot meaning a lot more for me and you know I love chewing my way through the  books!

Last month I discovered J.R Ward and her amazing Black Dagger Brotherhood series. It has been out a few years now, since 2005 , but I have just discovered it! I read the first book in the series, Dark Lover, and the same evening after just reading half ways through it and bought the remaining five books.

I had the entire series, which then consisted of seven books, read within the week.Book Eight, which is entitled ‘Lover Mine’ was released the week after (May 6th?) so the timing was perfect.

Brief overview, as borrowed from Amazon;

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There also exists a secret band of brothers like no other – six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Among them, none relishes killing their enemies more than Wrath, the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood…The only pure-bred vampire left on the planet, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But when one of his most trusted fighters is killed – orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate – Wrath must usher the beautiful female into the world of the undead…Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn’t there before, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes to her at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of brotherhood and blood frighten her. But his touch ignites a dawning hunger that threatens to consume them both…

It follows the Brothers, named Wrath (the Blind King) ,Rhage, Zsadist,Phury, Vishous, and Tohrment and their on going war with the Lessening Society plus their rather spectacular private lives.

If you are a Twilight fan then give it a miss.  Another pinched wordage that explains to a lot better than I could ever ;

Ward wields a commanding voice perfect for the genre, and readers new to the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood should hold on tight for an intriguing, adrenaline-pumping ride featuring a race of warrior vampires who fill enemies with terror and women with desire. Like any good thrill ride, the pace changes with a tender story of survival and hope and leaves readers begging for more. Fans of L. A. Banks, Laurell K. Hamilton, and Sherrilyn Kenyon will add Ward to their must-read list

I am currently on my second read of the series and this time is even better than the first. Will also bought me The Black Dagger Brotherhood Insiders guide. which in m opinion is also an essential read. It gives you breakdowns of the brothers, timelines, exclusive novellas and a whole lot more.

I also swallowed another series of hers ; Covet: A Novel of fallen Angels which is also a fantastic read. It is set in Caldwell and uses a crossover scenario without actually stepping on the toes of th Brothers.

I know that I have said this many a time before , but J.R Ward is my favourite author of all time. The whole Sci/fi vamp/Shifter genre is my personal stomping ground and while I have flirted with Crime Thrillers of late, the BDBH has pulled me feet first back into the genre!

A hosted (semi) Geek

August 12th, 2009

I’ve written about this company previously and honestly I cannot recommend them enough. It was through webhostinggeeks.com that I found my current web hosting company.
The honest to goodness reviews of individual hosting companies made by actual customers and need I mention, former customers were refreshing to read.
Before I moved to my current hosts ,I had been with three or four different companies and none lasted more than a month or two. Psychosis was nearly always down and when it was actually viewable it would take forever and a bit to load properly. But thankfully I think I have hit the nail on the head with my current crew.

I actually received a very pushy email from the former lot -whom I shall refer to as PoxyHosts looking for me to resubscribe, apparently the had been taken over by another 12 year old! Obviously when I refused they suspended my account.. Good. They didn’t refund my then remaining six months worth of hosting that I had just stupidly enough repaid before they lost a weeks worth of posts and said no more than “Tough” about it..

If only I had found webhostinggeeks.com before then it would have saved me a whole heap of trouble. In addition to the sanity saving reviews they offer lots of interesting  tit-bits about what you should look for in a host and more importantly tips on maximising SEO potential.

Spendaholic ? Me ? Never!

Well ahh ,Maybe I am -just a little. Not content with buying the shipload of paperbacks during the past few weeks, I’ve started crafting again and have bought yet more stamps.

Just two last night from a store in the US. She mailed me today to tell me that they have been shipped already plus she gave me nearly $3 back on the shipping cost. The stamps in question are serious hot property over here and are sold out as soon as the retailers put them on their sites. So I got my two for around £8 all in. That includes the postage. The cheapest here in the UK would be £11 plus £2 postage, so I am a happy bunny. She also will be carrying further new releases from CC Designs, so no doubt I will  be return customer!

A couple of CDS /crafting magazines plus my SU order ,and well that was about it to be honest.

I bought Bubble a Thomas back pack tonight because ,he asked me for a  Thomas pack :) Trouble got his Cars backpack for school last week, so Bubble decided he wanted a pack as well!

Speaking  of Bubble. We have started Potty Training him. Yes, he is only two and a half but for the past few months or so he has been telling me when he has to pee/poop. Will brought him home his very own big boy potty plus two packets of Thomas pants. He just did the one small wee in it, but we’ll practise a bit more tomorrow.

Physio again tomorrow, but honestly it is going very well. I went for the first time last week and in that short space of time  I am fully mobile (no tripping up) and off all medications bar the odd paracetamol. I honestly have never felt better!

Here’s hoping it keeps going that way :)

Bed time , I think. I’ve started Bad Blood (LA Banks) yesterday and so far it is looking good.
